PRINCIPLES OF REFLEXOLOGY
The basic principle of reflexology is that there are reflex areas in the hands and feet that correspond to all glands, organs and structures of the body. It is a non- invasive therapy that requires only human touch to bring about a result and to be effective. Reflexology works on the basis that there are 10 invisible zones in the body, 5 on the left, 5 on the right , as well as these zones, there are 4 lateral zones, put together they act as a map of the foot. The reflexologist will read the feet, looking at colour, temperatue, condition, skin texture and shape of foot, before commencing treatment. The therapist then applies pressure techniques to the reflexes on the feet that may or may not cause a reaction when stimulated. A reaction on a specific reflex could implicate that the corresponding organ, gland or structure may not be working to optimum capacity. The aim of reflexology is to eliminate toxins and wastes and strenghten and balance the energy flow in the body thereby promoting and maintaining homeostasis.
